Our history

Why I Created Curls of Hope

Curls of Hope was born from the deepest place of love, pain, and purpose. I created it in honor of my wife, Ashling Nicole Hatten, who courageously battled triple negative breast cancer for 7 months before gaining her wings.

Throughout her fight, Ashling showed a strength that was nothing short of heroic. Despite the constant doctor visits, MRIs, X-rays, chemotherapy treatments, and relentless pain, she carried herself with grace and resilience. In the presence of family and friends, she hid the pain so well—never allowing it to take away her light, her laughter, or the love she poured into each day. She fought for me, Nathan Hatten Jr., for her family, and most importantly, for our son, Jaxtyn Hatten.

In honoring her life, her strength, and her memory, I combined that purpose with something that has become a meaningful part of my life: waterfowl hunting—a passion passed on to me by Ashling’s family.

Curls of Hope is more than a name. It is a mission:
To bring together the outdoor community to raise awareness and support for individuals and families affected by breast cancer, all forms of cancer, injuries in the line of duty, and for those who have suffered loss without their stories ever being told.

This foundation exists for those who give everything they have—whether it's battling an illness, surviving an injury, or pushing through unimaginable grief—for their families, for their children, and for the hope that tomorrow might be better.

In Ashling’s honor, we carry forward her spirit.
We fight.
We support.
We never forget.

Curls of Hope. For her. For them. For all of us.

Our mission

At Curls of Hope, our mission is to unite the strength and compassion of the outdoor community with a purpose that reaches far beyond the trails, fields, and waters we love.

We believe that the same spirit that drives us to face early mornings, unpredictable weather, and rugged terrain can also be channeled into something even greater—supporting those who are fighting cancer, injured in the line of duty, or navigating the aftermath of devastating loss or natural disaster.

Our goal is to build a bridge between outdoor enthusiasts—hunters, anglers, hikers, conservationists, and first responders—and the families who need a lifeline of hope and healing. Whether through events, fundraisers, or awareness campaigns, we strive to remind people that community runs deeper than a shared passion—it’s about standing up for one another when it matters most.

Together, we bring the heart of the outdoors to those in need. Because hope, like the wild, is meant to be shared.
